When Should I Replace My Towel Rail?

A towel rail is both a practical part of the bathroom and part of how the room feels. If yours has become unreliable, looks worn or no longer gives you the warmth or towel space you need, replacement may be worth considering. But age alone is rarely the best reason to change it.

Is the rail itself the problem?

For this reason, you should never open, drain, refill or modify a sealed electric-only rail, even if doing so appears to offer access to the element or another internal part.

If an electric-only rail loses heat, behaves unusually, trips the electrical supply, shows scorching or cable damage, or has water near an electrical part, stop using it and contact us. Keep the complete rail intact while the correct supported resolution is established.

A dual-fuel rail is different. It contains normal hydronic system water rather than the sealed electric-only chemical mixture. It can be drained, refilled and recommissioned when necessary as part of professional hydronic installation or servicing, following the product instructions. Any work involving its electrical connection or components should still be completed by someone with the appropriate competence.

When replacement is the right choice

Replacement is worth considering when:

  • The rail body has an active pinhole, failed weld or seam.
  • There is severe corrosion, material loss or deformation.
  • A fault returns after suitable maintenance or repair.
  • A safe, supported resolution is unavailable.
  • A sealed electric-only rail is no longer considered suitable to remain in use.
  • The rail cannot provide the output or towel capacity the bathroom now requires.

A change in layout, finish or heating type can be just as valid. The difference is that you are choosing to improve the room rather than replacing a failed product.
